I’m trying to counter my friend’s argument that “people who do low skill jobs, like retail or fast food, should not expect livable wages and should work their way up to a better job position. Low skill jobs should be reserved for teens and college students.” That mentality doesn’t really jive with me, retail and fast-food workers provide a service to our society and should be paid enough to live comfortably.
When someone has that mindset it’s like trying to turn a Christian into an atheist. They don’t want to see the other side, it’s too uncomfortable. I believe all humans have worth and deserve a livable wage, I’m not saying caviar for dinner every day but you shouldn’t need 2 jobs to afford rent. Some people have this industrial revolution viewpoint that the whole purpose of life is working to make money.
