It becomes fairly clear that if states, cities, and counties are going to implement their own minimum wages regardless of what the federal government does, then it’s pointless to have the federal government involved at all. Let the local entities decide for themselves whether to implement a minimum wage and how much if so. They know the local economic situation better than DC does.
So a UBI should be introduced to counteract this risk. The UBI is a much finer tool than the minimum wage, it can easily be pegged to a value like Cost of Living or average rent for each given district and automatically adjusted. And it would give workers the leverage to avoid being exploited by companies large or small. I believe it would create a more level playing field for people to compete.
